Overview Presentation
The following is the TPC-C overview presentation given by 2 TPC representatives at the May 1997 SIGMOD conference in Tuscon, AZ. The two representatives were Jack Stephens of Informix, former TPC-D Subcommittee Chair, and Charles Levine of Microsoft, Chair of the TPC Steering Committee. The presentations provide an overview of each benchmark's history, their market relevance, and the requirements for running the benchmarks, as well as a glimpse of future directions.
Summary
The TPC approved its fourth benchmark in April, 1995. It differs from the existing benchmarks which focus on light and mid-weight customer oriented transactionns. TPC-D represents a broad range of decision support (DS) applications that require complex, long running queries against large complex data structures. Real-world business questions were written against this model, resulting in 17 complex queries.
